Enroute

Traded texts with Jim last night, Shari, Forrest, and Jim were on the plane in New York headed to Accra.

I am making my way to New York now to make the flight to Accra tonight.

This trip really has the potential be a really good trip.

As mentioned in my earlier post, we are going to do a renewal at Nsaba.  For those of you who read last year's blog "valentinecleanwater.blogspot.com" you will remember that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has a training center, school, and church in Nsaba.  Idlewild helped put a Living Waters (LWW) system in Nsaba several years ago.  Last year when Jim and I visited we discovered that the training center (where the LWW system) is located was struggling - both technically and operationally.

This year our plan is to modify the system a bit with an addtional filter in front of the pump that pulls water out of the underground cistern and into the LWW system.  The problem has been that the cistern accumulates "trash" in it from time to time and that "trash" has burned up at least 1 pump in the past.  Forrest will be working with the in-country technician, Michael, to install the addtional filter.  In addtion to the addtional filter, we are going to conduct another round of health & hygiene training.  Shari & Jim will be leading those sessions.

The other change at Nsaba is who will be partnering with the PCG training center to operate & support the installed LWW system.  Originally, the training center and the school were to partner with the school using the pure water from the LWW system along with the training center.  However, shortly after the system went into operation, the school had dug a new bore hole that produces acceptable water for drinking - so the LWW system at the training center "lapsed" and that is what Jim & I discovered last year.

The good news is that a group of elders from the church have decided that the church would like to partner wiith the training center going forward and that will be part of the renewal of Nsaba.

When I get into Accra tomorrow afternoon, we will head directly to Nsaba.
